Halloween meringue ghosts

meringues-ghosts-1

Well my daughter and I are still l thinking about Halloween ideas so we thought we would have a go at making these gorgeous meringue ghosts. We tried several recipes for the meringues but found that this recipe to be far the best as it didn’t crack and crumble.

Ingredients
4 egg whites
200g of caster sugar
Half a teaspoon of cream of tartar.
Black ready made icing.
Piping bag

Instructions
1.Place the egg whites into a bowl and whisk until they are very stiff.

2. Add the teaspoon of tartar to the whisked egg whites then gradually whisk in the caster sugar.

3. Place the whisked meringue mixture into a piping bag and pipe onto a lined baking tray. I used a 1cm nozzle for my piping bag. The best system we found to creating the right shape of ghosts was to pipe a large blob, then stop and pipe a smaller blob on top for the head with a whispy top.

4. Place in a preheated 100°c oven for an hour to an hour half or until the meringues are dry and crispy. After they have cooked turn off the oven and leave the meringues in there to completely dry out.

5. Once the meringues are cooled pipe the black ready made icing onto your meringues and have fun creating some super cute faces.
